What is Bathology?

Several years ago, a psychologist who worked extensively with business professionals made up a "diagnosis" he called Empathy Deficit Disorder in response to the narcissistic attitudes he was frequently observing from the effects of contemporary corporate culture.

Recent research now portrays a world where only one third of us trust in others (as compared to one half just 30 years ago) and one in every third person experiences some form of corporate bullying.

A disturbing status quo is beginning to appear; our states of mind (the sum total of our neurological processes) are being dangerously diminished.
What does our high-tech, information age offer as solutions, if any, for this epidemic? More information, in the form of How-to articles and books, (ten ways to enlightenment, seven steps to happiness, and three easy healing methods, etc.) anti-depressants that only reinforce a marching state of mind, and coping skills (yoga, meditation, etc.) to help people tolerate their often overwhelming situations.

Yoga and meditation are certainly beneficial (as is information), but have been reduced to mere coping skills in a frenzied world. Offering coping skills as solutions is like offering an abused spouse ways to stay in her abusive relationship, instead of a means to help her leave. All of these so-called solutions only treat the symptoms.

Change does not occur by throwing information and coping skills on overwhelmed people. It just makes it worse, and can become addictive. Like eating empty carbs, we stuff ourselves with information in the hopes of improving our lives only to end up malnourished and wanting more, never achieving the results we were looking for, and often becoming disillusioned and cynical. Our craving can never be fully satisfied, for information is NOT transformation.

Real transformation only happens by looking in the mirror.  Once people like what they see, they no longer need coping skills. They are energized, empowered and filled with enthusiasm;  3D. However, as individuals and as a society, denial is so rampant these days that looking in the mirror is not just scary, it's becoming taboo.

Books and articles on ten ways to meditate or how to fit yoga in to their already overloaded schedule are not viable solutions. They need a means to help reignite the fire in them and reclaim themselves, which doesn't occur by piling information on what's left of their spark. All that does is snuff it out.
What they (and all of us) need is a means to rejuvenate their overall state of mind; to change their mindsets from a humdrum state to a joyful one.

How?

Through a revolutionary system we designed called Bathology, a simple, effective and FUN daily practice that fuses soap & story to cleanse the body AND mind, instantly turning frowns into smiles and worry into wonder.

Bathology Book Series

Remember lather, rinse, repeat?

Scientists have recently shown we can revitalize our brains as we do our skin and hair. it's kind of like lather, rinse, repeat, with an emphasis on the repeat. With only a few minutes a day of the right kind of repetitious behavior, we can reshape our neurology, thereby improving our resilience, well--being and overall vitality. This takes mindfully and regularly directing our attention to positive thoughts and images, and then savoring them until they soak into our long term memories. In other words, it's kind of like savor, soak, repeat.

Where better to savor and soak than the tub?
In the bath, we have a moment alone. A daily routine; a chance to cleanse our minds while cleansing our bodies. Nature and nurture.  In the tub we can savor and soak with a bar of soap in our hands instead of a plastic bottle, and an inspiring story in our hearts instead of a daily worry.

Recent neuroscience studies suggest that when reading a story, different brain regions collaborate to create an experience that is much like imagining a real life, vivid event.  In Splash City, we offer a new story to replace the negative ones we may be telling ourselves; an entire comical world* to project into, lose ourselves and experience-take.

The gem found in each book (and shown on the cover) is associated with a particular Cartoon Mentor and their story, coherent concept and quote, and an aromatherapy scented (smell is a potent trigger) bar of natural, handmade soap.

Bathology "Mind & Body Bars"
In addition, a clear vinyl decal (a "cartoon cue"  for the tub or mirror) of the character and their quote is included in each Bathology "Mind & Body Bar" to be used as a visual trigger (simple images like cartoons work well as visual cues).

Bathology is not a treatment for any serious emotional illness.  It's simply designed to discourage worry and encourage wonder and a 3D state of mind, and its benefits are many.

Once we are "Raising the Bar" daily, we may find ourselves in an optimal state for creativity, problem-solving and serendipity.
